TREATS FOR TROOPS
Not sure what to do with your left over Halloween candy?
Bring it to school and we will use the candy and other needed items to make care packages for our deployed soldiers. The Going Green Club will be collecting treats for troops November 10 - 24. Please bring your items to GLC or the collection boxes in the dining hall. Acceptable items include: candy, snacks, travel size toiletries, books, cards, and word puzzles. Students should see the posters that are posted around campus for more information.
SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER
Would you like to help spread holiday cheer to others? WYWLA will be collecting gift cards for our own families in need this winter season. We are requesting gift cards of $5 or more. By combining multiple gift cards we can give a gift that will brighten someone’s holiday, every little bit helps!
Collection Dates: December 8th – 12th
Gift Card Stores: Target, Walmart or Kohl’s only please

Family Bowling Night
On Friday, December 19, 2014, WYMLA PTSA is having a Family Bowling Night at The Alley on Hillsborough Street from 7-9 pm. This event is for the entire WYMLA and WYWLA Community.
Cost is as follows:
$10 for 2 hours unlimited bowling and shoes 2 Meal Plans will also be available
2014 WAKE PTA REFLECTIONS CONTEST
Attention WYWLA Students! Please submit your entries.
The theme is: "The world would be a better place if....."
The grade divisions are: 6-8, 9-12
Categories: literature, photography, music, visual arts
Student entry form with parent signature required; important to follow all manuscript guidelines.
WYWLA can enter up to 12 pieces; Mrs. Gloden must submit items by November 17th.
Copies of all materials have been shared with all WYWLA English/Language Arts teachers.

Current sophomores and juniors have the opportunity to apply for the Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics program.
Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics is a cost-free, state-funded program for academically talented North Carolina residents who have demonstrated interest in science and mathematics and aspire to a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The program brings rising juniors and seniors together in a residential setting for research and intensive study. The program is currently hosted at four campuses of the university system—Appalachian State University (ASU), East Carolina University (ECU), North Carolina Central University (NCCU), and University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC). This is a four week program that begins June 14th and ends August 2nd.
The application period is now open and closes on January 31st. You can find more information and applications at www.summerventures.org . Please see Ms. Hardin with any questions that you may have.
WYWLA is partnering with Project Tomorrow SpeakUp, an online survey for teachers, parents, students and community supporters to provide input around learning, and specifically the use of technology in our school. We want to hear from you so we can provide our students with the best instruction possible. Please take a few moments to go to our school’s website and click on the Project Tomorrow SpeakUp button, and complete the survey. Students taking the survey will need a password, which is wake2014.
